Why can’t I add Stop Loss or Take Profit to an existing Tradovate position?

Short answer

Tradovate brackets must be added when the parent order is placed. TradingView cannot add new SL/TP levels after that order is placed or to an already running position.

What you may be seeing

  • Modify Order shows disabled SL and TP fields
  • An open Tradovate position has no Add bracket option
  • You can move existing brackets but cannot create new ones

Most likely causes

  1. Tradovate requires brackets during parent order creation
  2. The position was opened without attached brackets
  3. The integration supports modification but not late attachment

Try this first

  1. Check whether brackets already exist
  2. If they exist, modify their levels on the chart
  3. If they do not, review supported separate exits
  4. For future trades add SL and TP in the parent order ticket

If that didn’t fix it

  1. Manage the position in Tradovate
  2. Place separate supported protective orders
  3. Close and recreate only if that is appropriate for the trading plan

Verify the fix

A new Tradovate parent order created with brackets displays active SL and TP children that can be modified.

Why this happens

Tradovate brackets must be added when the parent order is placed. TradingView cannot add new SL/TP levels after that order is placed or to an already running position.

Existing bracket levels can be modified if they were created with the parent. For new protection, use a supported separate order or manage the position in Tradovate according to its rules.
