Why does my TradingView strategy show no trades or “No data”?

Pine Script · Strategy Tester
SOURCE-CHECKED FIX Source checked Aug 29, 2026 TradingView documentation ✓
Short answer

“No data” usually means the script is not producing simulated orders. Confirm it is a Pine strategy, uses strategy order commands, has enough simulated capital, has no runtime error, and actually meets its entry conditions.

What you may be seeing

  • Strategy Report shows No data
  • A strategy is on the chart but the trade list is empty
  • Buy or sell drawings appear but no simulated strategy trades are recorded

Most likely causes

  1. The script is an indicator or library rather than a strategy
  2. The strategy has no order-placement commands
  3. The simulated account does not have enough capital for the requested position
  4. A runtime error stops the script
  5. The strategy's order conditions never become true in the testing range

Try this first

  1. Confirm the Pine declaration uses strategy()
  2. Confirm the code contains strategy.entry(), strategy.order(), or another valid strategy order workflow
  3. Check the chart for a runtime-error indicator and fix any error
  4. Review Initial Capital and order size in Strategy Properties
  5. Check whether the entry conditions are actually reached in the selected data range

If that didn’t fix it

  1. Add Pine Logs or temporary plots to debug whether the entry condition becomes true
  2. Test another symbol or date range to separate strategy logic from missing market opportunities
  3. Lower the simulated order size or increase Initial Capital when affordability is the problem

Verify the fix

Strategy Report populates with at least one simulated trade and the trade list shows the expected entry or exit activity.

Why this happens

If Strategy Report shows No data, the strategy is not producing simulated orders that can populate the report. First confirm that the script is declared with strategy(), not indicator() or library(), and that it actually calls an order-placement command such as strategy.entry() or strategy.order().

TradingView also lists insufficient simulated capital, runtime errors, and entry conditions that never become true as common reasons for a strategy to produce no trades.
